Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood this afternoon presented the City of Adelaide 2014 Australia Day Awards at the Adelaide City Council Chambers followed by a congratulatory reception in the Queen Adelaide Room from 4.30 pm.
The Awards are presented to local citizens or groups each year in three categories based on having made a significant contribution in 2013 or given outstanding service to the local community.
The Community Event of The Year award was taken out by Fork on the Road, a regular mobile food vender event that occurs in the city throughout the year.
Organiser Joe Noone, first presented the idea to Council after seeing similar festivals in the United States a couple of years ago. The events have gone from strength to strength and now have a strong community following.
“Fork on the Road has become very popular with the people of Adelaide and it’s great to see an event that gets people out and about enjoying our beautiful Squares and Park Lands, congratulations to all involved,” said Stephen.
Our behalf of Fork on the Road I would like to say a big thanks to the Lord Mayor and Council for this award.
Fork on the Road is all about community and without a bunch of support it is not possible, this starts with Splash Adelaide, the support and skills of their team especially Carrie Johnson and Tess McMaster has been more than vital. I need to extend thanks and acknowledge the input and commitment of the mobile food vendors for choosing to be part of this crazy idea, special mention to Rob from Burger Theory, Matt from Fair Espresso and Greg from Chimichurri Grill for providing some great advice, enthusiasm and business acumen. And of course I need to thank my wife and daughter for all their support and work to make it happen.
Fork on the Road is very proud to accept an award that is about community, while Fork is all about creative great yummy food made from things on wheels and opening eyes to new and often under-used spaces in the city, community is at the heart of Fork on the Road. Without the development of a community of Mobile Food Vendors and without the development of great community of Forkers mostly through the power of social media who love coming along trying out new food and new spaces there is no way we would have made 14 Forks.
Fork On!!!!
